Average & Median Income in Saskatchewan by Age

In 2020, the median total income in Saskatchewan was $42,400 and the average was $53,050, among people aged 15 and over with income (Statistics Canada, 2021 Census). That compares with a national median of $41,200. The median was $48,000 for men and $38,400 for women. After adjusting for inflation, the median was $41,600 in 2015, so it rose 2% over five years.

The average sits above the median because a smaller number of high incomes pull it up — the guide to average income in Canada explains which figure to use.

How Saskatchewan compares

Saskatchewan's median income ranks in the top three provinces in every age band, and among those 65 and older it ties Alberta for the highest, at $36,000. Its province-wide median ranks second of ten, behind only Alberta. Net worth does not match that standing: Saskatchewan ranks fifth of ten on median family net worth in every age band, from $120,800 among those 25-34 to $663,200 among those 55-64. Prince Edward Island is one example of the split. Its median income is lower than Saskatchewan's in all five age bands, yet its median net worth is higher in all five; at 55-64, Saskatchewan's $663,200 trails Prince Edward Island's $671,900. Against Manitoba, Saskatchewan is ahead on both measures at every age, with a median income of $48,800 against $46,400 at 55-64. Saskatchewan's income also changed little between 2015 and 2020: after adjusting for inflation its median rose 1.9 percent, the second-smallest change of the ten provinces after Alberta, where it fell.

Income above is individual total income for all genders and education levels, from the 2021 Census. The comparison tool breaks it down by gender and education. Net worth is family-level, from the Survey of Financial Security, and is compared by province and age only — it is not broken down by gender or education.
